About Redact PDF
Redaction That Actually Removes the Content
A black rectangle drawn on top of a PDF is not a redaction: the text underneath can still be selected, copied and searched. This tool removes it.
How It Works
Every page you redact is turned into a flat image with the black boxes burned in. The original text, images and drawings of that page are not copied into the new file at all, so there is nothing left to uncover. Pages without redactions stay exactly as they were, with selectable text.
Find Every Mention at Once
Search for a name, an email address, an ID or account number, and every match on every page is boxed for you. Add more boxes by dragging over signatures, photos, stamps or anything else.
Remove Hidden Details Too
By default the document's title, author and other properties are removed as well, since they often reveal what was redacted. Links that pointed into redacted pages are dropped.
Good to Know
Text on redacted pages can no longer be selected or searched. If you need it searchable again, run the result through our OCR tool.
Private by Design
The redaction happens entirely in your browser with pdf.js and pdf-lib. Your confidential document is never uploaded.
